Chapter of the Year

The Michigan Trout Unlimited Chapter of the Year Award is granted to the chapter which most closely reflects the ideals of Trout Unlimited.

The awarded chapters should be considered as a role model for all state chapters. Since this is an annual award, it must be granted based on the activities and achievement of the preceding calendar year' not for historic achievements.  Given its annual nature the award may be presented to a chapter for consecutive years if the recognized achievement occurred in separate years. The award, however, will not be granted to the same chapter for more than two consecutive years.

Considerations should be given to total chapter achievements, as opposed to a single event or program.

Criteria

  1. Continued membership and financial growth. No minimum limits are established since this is situational, depending upon the chapter's age and location.  The Awards Committee considers growth in membership and finances as a major awards criteria.

  2. Significant contributions to the resources, either through active resource improvement work, public education (in the area of resources not fishing techniques,) or financial support of such activities undertaken by other chapters.

  3. Active involvement in Michigan Trout Unlimited activities. This is a Michigan Trout Unlimited award, so the activities must benefit Michigan Trout Unlimited.

  4. Other significant contributions.

Order of the Grayling

The Order of the Grayling recognizes and marks the death of a Michigan Trout Unlimited member who in his or her own right was considered to be a valuable resource to the organization and coldwater fisheries of the state.  This award is reserved for those individuals whose impact was felt at a state-wide level. This induction will be limited to the following individuals.

Criteria

  1. Member of the Order of the Caddis.

  2. Michigan resident whose impact in the area of trout fishing and conservation was state-wide or nation-wide.  Such as authors, scientists and active conservationists.

  3. Others whose death marks more than a personal loss for individuals,  but the loss of a true human resource.

Order of the Hexagenia

The Order of the Hexagenia is an honorary group.  Individuals recognized are inducted as lifetime members.

Criteria

  1. Positive contributions to coldwater fisheries of the State of Michigan by a non-Trout Unlimited member.  While often a resource professional such as a fisheries biologist, others i.e. politicians, writers, etc. will be considered.

  2. Given the general criteria, inductees will be selected on a case by case basis.

Order of the Caddis

The Order of the Caddis (member of the year) is not an award, but a "Hall of Fame" which recognizes Michigan Trout Unlimited's most active, effective and valued members.  Induction into the Order of the Caddis is an honor bestowed upon and individual, and is a lifetime honor.

Because this is a council award, the inductee must have made a significant contribution to Michigan Trout Unlimitedl.  High levels of chapter activity should be recognized by individual chapters.

The award need not be annual in nature. Should no individual merit induction, none should be inducted.

No member will be inducted more than once.

Criteria

  1. Long term (more than one year) involvement at the Michigan Trout Unlimited level to include the holding of at least one position of responsibility in Michigan Trout Unlimited or in some way making a significant contribution.  Holding a position of responsibility does not, in and of itself, qualify an individual for induction.

  2. Demonstration of commitment to Michigan Trout Unlimited and its activities, i.e. initiating and leading a stream restoration project.

  3. Significant achievement with high Michigan Trout Unlimited impact during previous calendar year.
