Welcome to Michigan Trout Unlimited!
Michigan Trout Unlimited is the coordination and representation for 20 local chapters of TU and over 8,000 individuals, devoted to the conservation, protection and restoration of Michigan's coldwater fish and their watersheds. Michigan is blessed with a vast wealth of wonderful and unique trout streams, over 11,000 inland lakes, and the largest sources of cold freshwater in North America - the Great Lakes. Michigan TU does whatever it takes to advocate for the prudent management of these resources, including on-the-ground stream improvements, angler & steward education, research, partnerships and collaboration with other conservation groups and governmental agencies, and policy development. Michigan is the birthplace of Trout Unlimited, and Michigan TU continues that proud heritage with its work today.
How you can Help
Trout Unlimited is a grassroots organization. That means that our success in conserving, protecting and enhancing coldwater fisheries and their watersheds depends upon the active participation of individuals like you. Our members are our organization. They construct stream improvements, conduct monitoring of aquatic resources, hold educational programs, set conservation advocacy agendas, do fundraising, and keep the organization running strong. If you care about our coldwater fisheries and their watersheds and want to give back to them, Trout Unlimited can give you that opportunity. We can use your help.
Trout Unlimited members are often the only line of defense between environmental threats and your local trout stream. Why not make a difference?
UP Brook Trout Bag Limit
Please find a copy of the public comments Michigan TU submitted today, to the NRC, in regards to the issue of UP Brook trout bag limits.
As discussed at that last board meeting, the trajectory of this issue has required us to take actions commensurate with the seriousness of the issue and the need to ensure scientific fish management in the State of Michigan.
If you have any questions concerning this, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.
Distinguished Service for Communications!
Members of the Michigan Trout Unlimited celebrate being named recipients of the Distinguished Service for Communications award. Presented by Jeff Yates, director of volunteer operations for Trout Unlimited, on the far left.
Three times a year, 7,500+ Trout Unlimited members in Michigan are treated to stories of conservation success, entertained by fishing tales and tips, educated about important issues facing fisheries in the state and encouraged to get active and involved.
MICHIGAN Trout, the magazine of the Michigan TU, is a polished, professional and comprehensive communications piece that is firing on all cylinders and helping the council keep its members connected to the great work done in their name and on their behalf across the state - and beyond.
The articles - an equal mix of celebrations of chapter and council wins and cautionary tales of threats on the horizon - inspire members to learn more, get active, lend their voice to an advocacy effort, support the work financially, and offer their time and talent to the mission of TU in their home state.
Attractive in design to catch the eye, easy to read, and offering a diversity of topics and voices, MICHIGAN Trout, does a great job of making all members feel part of something bigger than themselves and excited to be involved with an organization accomplishing so much to protect, reconnect and restore the state's rivers and streams.
2018 TU Annual Meeting
Each year TU National has an annual meeting. This year it was in Redding, California, September 19 to 23. Opt-Out of receiving Michigan Trout
You can opt out of receiving "Michigan Trout" as a hard copy. Instead, you'll get an e-mail notification of the newsletter's posting on our website, with a direct link to the newsletter, the day of its posting. You won't have to wait anxiously by your mailbox anymore. The online version will be in color, and you can forward the notification to non-members, too. The rationale for this move? Green. Both environmental and financial. Every paper subscription costs Michigan TU about $4 per member annually in printing and mailing costs. We have about 7400 TU members in the state. Just think about the money we could save, and devote to cold-water conservation. We need your help! If you are so inclined, please follow the link below and Opt-Out of receiving a paper copy of "Michigan Trout."
